Welcome

So I decided I should start blogging about my life as a teacher. I teach second grade in a medium-sized city in the Southeast. Most days it feels as though I live in a small town, though, because some of the people I work with went to the same school where we teach, or were roommates in college, or both. I grew up in the Midwest, talked my parents into letting me spend a semester in England, and went to graduate school in another Southern town. It seems as though most people (including my husband, who grew up here) never leave this city. Then they run into each other sometime after college and say, "Remember the time we went to the middle school dance together?" or "Remember when we hid in the corner in kindergarten?!" When I first moved here I'd often run into my dentist and his wife at one of the bars. It just seems odd to me to spend your entire life in one city, going to the same beach every summer. I digress...

Back to teaching. Before I became a teacher I was in the journalism field. I've always waffled about what to do. Right now teaching seems fine. Last year I looped up with my class, which I would not recommend. So after week one, I am enjoying my students and looking forward to going back on Monday.

I chose the font because that's what I often feel like at work. It's hard to having everything ready for the kids and always be on top of things. I'm going to write about my students, so if you do not care for children or want to read about their zany antics, this probably is of little or no interest to you.

One of the children said something funny the other day, though I can't remember what it is, so that's not a great story. Stay tuned...
